India is world’s biggest democratic country. The democracy enables the citizens to opt for the government of their choice by enjoying the right to vote.  The major political parties dominating Indian politics are undoubtedly Indian National Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party, apart from this various regional parties in each state plays a dominant role in politics of India.

Unlike several other south Indian states, the politics in Karnataka is also effected by the emergence of regional parities. Apart from this the issues like caste, creed and language equally dominant the state politics. Besides, the two major national parties i.e, Indian National Congress Party and Bhartiya Janta Party, the third National level party which has its hold in politics of the state is Janta Dal (Secular) party, apart from this  there almost seven regional parties who equally influence the politics in the state.

Thus, the political parties in Karnataka can be divided into two groups:

National level parties: Indian National Congress party, Bhartiya Janta party and Janta Dal (Secular).

Regional Parties: Coorg National Council, Kannad Chalavali Vatal Paksha, Karnataka Kranti Ranga, Karnataka Vikas Party, Urs Samyuktha Paksha, and Maharastra Ekikaran Samithi.

As in other states Governor is the constitutional head of the state but the day to day administrative decisions are taken by the Chief Minister. The same practice is also followed in the state of Karnataka. At present honorable Shri. Han Raj Bharadwaj is the Governor of the state and honorable. Shri. Dr. B.S. Yediyurappa of the Bhartiya Janta Party is the Chief Minister of the state. A huge team of experienced members of party form his council of minister to help him maintaining the law and order in the state.
