Unlike various other Indian cities cricket is most liked sports by the citizens of Bengaluru. Bengaluru has given few renowned players to Indian Cricket representing India and taking Indian cricket to new heights. Players like Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble are recognized as one of the most successful captains of Indian cricket. Apart from this there is a huge fleet of players like Gundappa Vishwanath, Syed Kirmani, E.A.S. Prasanna, Venkatesh Prasad, Sunil Joshi, Robin Uthappa, Vinay Kumar and Abhimany Mithun who have given an incredible contribution to the game of cricket. Several groups of youth can be seen playing gully cricket on Sundays and holidays on city roads.

The main cricket stadium owing International facilities is M.Chinnaswamy Stadium with the sitting capacity of 55,000 spectators. Apart from various International matches stadium has hosted some premier matches like the matches played during world cup of 1987 and 1996 respectively. Besides, this the stadium also runs the Indian National Cricket Academy established to encourage the upcoming cricket talent in country.

The introduction of Indian Premier League played a major role in increasing the popularity of cricket. The attachment of world renowned players with Bangalore Royal Challengers has inspired the huge fleet of youth towards this game. Apart from long line up of eminent cricketers Bengaluru has also produced the tennis stars like Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna who are born and brought up in Bengaluru and reside in Bengaluru. With the city also hosts Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Bangalore Open Tournament annually.

Apart from various cricket and tennis players Bengaluru has given some players who have mark their presence in world map to name All England Open Badminton Champion Prakash Padukone, World Snooker Champion Pankaj Advani and National Swimming champion Nisha Millet belong from Bengaluru.

In short it can be said that inspite of being making a remarkable achievement in field of IT, Bengaluru is also the hub of various sports activities and has produced world renown sportsman  in almost every major sports.
