Chunchi Waterfalls in Bangalore

The Bangalore city bursts in natural grandeur and showers of the colorful Chunchi Falls is an evidence for that. It is a usual one day tourist spot located in Kanakapura Taluk, which is 90 km away from Bangalore city. This waterfall flows over the Arkavati river. This attractive place is located amidst the lush green forests. Chunchi is a little village which comprises of a couple of huts.

One can get a very pleasant view of the Chunchi village. Chunchi falls drops in two distinct cascades which is very attractive in nature. People have to be very cautious when they have to go to the pool, because it needs a walk on the rocks which will be glossy. The stream flows and connects the Kavery at Sangama. The Chunchi waterfall is nestled among the wonderful ranges of rocks on the Arkavati River banks. It is situated on the way to Yelehalli from Sangam. It gives an eye catching panoramic outlooks of the surroundings of the waterfall, which is in the backdrop of scenic backgrounds. The rippling gleams on the waterfall cuts through the rock valleys. The waterfall can be reached by taking a diversion at Krishnarajanagar on the Mysore-Hassan main road. The main diversion occurs on the left side of the town of KR Nagar. Taking a small right turn on the muddy path leads to the river front.

Historical Significance of Chunchi Falls

Chunchanakatte is considered as a holy spot, since the Lord Sri Ram during his vanvas stayed and received the hospitality of Chuncha and Chunchi, a tribal couple. The importance of this location is that the sound of the powerful falls can be perceived all over except inside the sanctum of the ancient temple. The legend states that Lord Ram was tired of the Seetha's continuous complaining and provided a curse saying that the tongue of a woman should not be sharp and since Kavery river is considered to be female the disturbance that the stream developed would not be perceived in the sanctum of the lord.

When Sita was tired and thought to have a bath, Lord Ram told Lakshman to send an arrow at a rock, once Lakshman released the arrow, water in 3 distinct shades started pouring out, one with oil, one with shikakai and one with turmeric. These shades are visible even today when there is considerable allowance of water raging torrent in the falls. This place was like paradise on soil with nature at its best, before the power plant was established here. This region is mainly inhabited by farmers and workers of a local sugar mill and of late the power plant.

Best Time to Visit Chunchi Falls

From June to August is the best time to visit the Chunchi falls, since the river will be in the full flow. Do not make plans to stay around this place as there are not many accommodation facilities are available, so be cautious and do not make plans to stay overnight without booking any safe place to stay over. The falls themselves have no genuine hotels nearby, and one can try a safe hotel in Bangalore instead of trying to find out a good hotel in Kanakapura.

Things to Remember During a Trip to Chunchi Falls

The main thing one should remember when they proceed to chunchi falls is to carry their food and water with them. Kanakapura, the nearest place to the falls, has got some restaurants, but it is better to carry own food and water, as it might not be cooked with the individual expectation. Sun protection cream is another important thing to carry during the chunchi fall trip as one might have to walk round the entire day. If the person wants to enjoy the fall at its fullest, it is better to visit during the season.

From Bangalore to the Chunchi falls, it is difficult to catch a taxi, so prefer to book the taxis prior. If the tourist is interested in adventure sports, they can really enjoy a bit of climbing and trekking, or they can enjoy the campfire with an overnight stay here. Bring a set of friends and make a barbecue beside the falls would also a nice addition to the trip plan.
