Gokarna is an important pilgrimage center in the state of Karnataka. It is quite well connected to Bangalore via train and road. Located in western part of India & bordering Maharashtra state, Gokarna today is unarguably one of the hottest tourist destinations in entire India. The town of Gokarna has many prestine and secluded beaches which are a hit amongst the pilgrims. The beaches which are most visited by the tourists are located one after the another. There are four of them, which are namely; Kudle Beach, Halfmoon Beach, Om Beach and Paradise Beach. Each beach has its own zeal. Om Beach is the most happening place in the lot as its the only one, which can be reached by automobiles. While to reach another beaches you have to do a little trek across the woods and rocky cliffs, which takes around half an hour. You can also take a boat from one beach to reach the another. The Paradise beach is literally a paradise for the hippie, as it is protected by the coves and thus, is secluded.
Gokarna from Bangalore by Train:
Gokarna does have a railway station – Gokarna Road Railway station. Bangalore and Goa are quite well connected by trains, however most of
the direct trains to Goa are not available from Bangalore Railway
Station but at Yesvantpur Railway Junction. Yesvantpur Railway Junction is just 6 km away from Bangalore Railway Station. However as of today there is only one Train from Bangalore to Gokarna. The total rail journey from Bangalore to Gokarna takes more than 12 hours.
Chennai Vasco Express/17311 – arrives at 9:35 pm & departs 9:55 pm – runs only on Friday.
Yesvantpur Vasco da Gama Express/17309 - departs at 2:45 pm from Yeshvantpur Junction. - runs only on Tuesday and Sunday.
Velankanni Vasco da Gama Express/17316 – arrives at 4:15 am & departs at 4:30 : runs only on Wednesday
Yeshvantpur - Karwar Express/16515 – departs at 7:30 A.M from
Yeshvantpur junction & reaches 10: 05 P.M at Gokarna; runs only on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Gokarna from Bangalore by Air:
Gokarna doesn’t have an airport. The nearest airport is Dabolim airport in Goa, approximately 140 km away from Gokarna. Although there are regular flights from Bangalore to Goa, travelling via air to Gokarna should be best avoided. Its time consuming & very expensive.
Gokarna from Bangalore by Road:
The total distance between Bangalore and Gokarna is around 500 km & road journey takes approximately 10 hours. Since Gokarna is an important pilgrimage center, there is no dearth at all of public and private buses from Bangalore to Gokarna. There is one KSRTC bus from Bangalore to Gokarna at late night. Besides, there are innumerable travel agencies in Bangalore that offer luxuries & semi luxurious bus service to Gokarna.
