It definitely needs a special mentioning about the pillars, the metalwork and entrances. Bangalore city brags of a number of religious locations, ranging from mosques to churches. Kempe Gowda I of Vijayanagara domain was established the modern Bangalore, but, in an effort to get back to the origins, have altered to Bengaluru once again.

Some Historical Notes on the Temples in Bangalore

Bangalore was renowned as Benga-val-oru, the city of guards, which was a part of the Ganga Dynasty. Leveraged by the reign of the Cholas, Wodeyars and Hoysalas, the ancient Bangalore developed into a town with chronicled monuments and temples. Temples in Bangalore are well known tourist locations, typical of the Hoysala architecture and intricate carvings.

Among the few temples in Bangalore, Bull Temple, ISKON Temple and Gavi Gangadhareshvara Temple are some of the famous temples. Gavi Gangadhareshvara temple was constructed by Kemoe Gowda in the 16th century with an inside natural cave in Gavipuram.

This temple has 4 big granite pillars, two of which support a Nandi, the statue of the bull, while on the other two pillars is huge discs comprising sun and moon. Lord Shiva is the deity in this temple and also there is an idol of Agni (rarely one), the God of Fire. 

Makar Sankranti is a special day when devotees flock to the temple to watch sunlight drop on the Shiva Linga inside the cave when it passes in between the horns of the Nandi outside the temple.

The Bull Temple or Dodda Basavana Gudi established in South Bangalore is a monolith bull figurine of 4.5m height and 6.5m long. Kempe Gowda built this temple in a normal Dravidian style in Bangalore. 

There is furthermore a cult image of the Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu deity near by. ISKON Temple is one of the significant Temples in Bangalore, which is dedicated to Radha and Krishna, this is fascinating temple where both international and national devotees visit on a pilgrimage.

A Hindu temple in Bengaluru, which serves as the reflectors of the majority population of the city whose earliest customary Hindu temple is traced to the Domlur Chokkanatha temple of the Chola dynasty time. 

The next oldest temple is the Halasuru Someshwara Temple Ulsoor,  a combination of Hoysala, Vijayanagara and Chola architecture, which was renovated and made some beautiful architecture works by three generations of the Yelahanka dynasty.

According to a folk legend of this oldest temple, it is believed that Kempe Gowda, tired after hunting, and took rest under a tree and dropped slumbering on the present site of the temple. Lord Someshwara came to his dream,  disclosing the existence of hidden treasure and told him to construct the temple dedicated to him with it.

Several temples have been constructed by common people and are also patronized by certain groups such as the Golla, Devanga, Besta, Goniga, Uppara, Kshaurika, Ganiga, Vishwakarma, Nagartha and so forward. The most popular temples listed are that of Hanuman, 635 figures and the oldest of them is reported to be the Shri Gali Anjaneya temple on Mysore Road, said to have been founded in the year 1425 by Vyasaraja.

Bangalore has many religiously significant temples. Here are the lists of temples in Bangalore which are very old and equally beautiful:
  • Hampi temple - There are so many Hindu temples in Hampi which are still open for worship. Among those are: The Malayavanta Raghunathswamy temple, Virupaksha temple, The Hazard Rama Temple Complex, The Krishna Temple Complex and Vittalla temple.
  • Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple In Bangalore - The famous temple is located in the Kariyangala Village in Karnataka state. Goddess Shri Raja Rajeshwari is the main deity in this temple. Goddess was known as Porala during the ancient times, so the place was called as Pural. There have been notes in several ancient epigraphs and old records about the Shri Raja Rajeshwari temple.
  • Swaminarayan Temple in Bangalore - Swaminarayan temple is situated near the Tithal Beach. Lord Swaminarayan is worshipped here and temple is managed by the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha or BAPS.
  • Dharmaraja Temple In Bangalore - The Bangalore Dharmaraja Temple is situated in Nagarath Pet. Sri Dharmaraja Swami and Lord Krishna have the two outstanding images in this temple. Lord Krishna devotees celebrate Kangra festival in this temple. 
  • The symbol of Draupadi, the Karaga is kept inside this temple. A great thing about the procession of this Temple is that, the visit of dargha of the Sufi saint Hazarat Tawakkal Mastan is compulsory for whoever visiting this temple. So that this temple kept as a wonderful example of the Hindus and Muslims brotherhood.
  • Gangadhareshwara Temple in Bangalore - The ancient temple was an example of a monolithic rock art in the 9th century. Lord Shiva is the Deity in the main shrine. This is one of the few temples in Bangalore worshipping Shiva and hundreds of devotees visited this temple during Shivaratri.
  • Nandi Temple /The Bull Temple - The Bull temple of Bangalore is dedicated to the vahana of Lord Shiva, the Nandi Bull. This temple has been built in the Dravidian style of architecture, situated in Basavanagudi. This temple believed to be the oldest temples of the city and attracts many devotees from all over the country.
  • Saraswathi Temple In Bangalore - Saraswati Temple is a very old temple situated in Hampi, though it is not in a very good condition but still holds its charm.
  • Banashankari Temple in Bangalore - Banashankari Temple is located on Kanakapura Road in Southern Bangalore, is of course one of the most famous temples in Bangalore City. 
  • Mookambika Temple In Bangalore - The Mookambika Devi Temple in the state of Karnataka, dedicated to Mookambika Devi. As per the historical evidences, the temple is at least 1200 years old and it was believed that king Halugallu Veera Sangayya installed an idol there.
  • Dodda Ganesha Temple In Bangalore - The well known Dodda Ganesha Temple is situated on the Bull Temple Road in Bangalore. This very old temple can be found just next to Bull temple and Bugle Rock Park.
  • Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple - Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple is located in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bangalore. And it is believed that the divine mother is everywhere, every atom of creation and in the hearts of all devotees.
  • Raghavendra Temple In Bangalore - One of the significant religious spots in South India - Raghavendra temple, as it houses the original samadhi of the great saint Sri Raghavendra.
