Bangalore, also called as Bengaluru, is the capital of the Karnataka state. Bangalore is nicknamed "The Garden City of India" and was once called a pensioner's paradise. The city was inducted in the list of Global Cities and graded as a "Beta World City" in the year 2009.

Local folklore has it that a 10th century king, Veera Ballala lost his way in the forest while on his hunting. He arrived at the house of an old lady who offered him her simple meal of simmered beans. Since then it was called "Benda Kalu Uru". 

Bangalore gained significance in the 18th century, when it became a significant fort town, under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan of Mysore. In the year 1831, the British made it the local administrative town and established a large-scale cantonment here. 

Post Independence, Bangalore has become a commercial center and today it also has the distinction of being the IT hub of India and is fondly called "the Silicon Valley of India".

By Air/Flight

Bengaluru International Airport (IATA: BLR) is established in Devanahalli, 40 km from the MG road (Center of Banglore city) and 30 km from the Bangalore railway station. The new airport is among India's busiest and most modern. 

There are a number of flights to significant towns like Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. All the international services have their offices situated in Bangalore.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates buses from diverse points of the town every 15 mins to the Bangalore International airport.  

By Train

The Bangalore City Railway Station is the main railway station in Bangalore. Most of the important cities are connected with Banglore railway station. 

There are many express trains from Bangalore to other cities of the country. Many super fast trains such as Brindavan, Shatabdhi and Lalbagh express connect Bangalore to Chennai.

By Road

Bangalore has a big bus station, which is near to the railway station. A well maintained network of roadways connected with major cities like Mysore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. 

For making the sightseeing spots of Bangalore, KSRTC is operating the regular buses. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) arranging a number of excursions and tours around the city.
