Infrastructure in Bangalore

Bangalore, the third largest city in India, came into being in 1537 CE. It is said that Kempe Gowda I, a feudatory ruler of Vijayanagara Empire founded the city. He constructed a huge mudfort in the modern Bangalore vicinity.

Gowda even permitted the construction of lakes in the city. Kempe Gowda II also contributed his bit to the city’s infrastructure. He built four towers in order to segregate Bangalore’s boundaries.

The face of the city was further changed when Haider Ali took charge of the place in 1758. His son Tipu Sultan also came up with certain innovative ideas to improve its infrastructure.

From 1799 to 1811, the Diwan of Mysore, Poornaiah added to the city’s overall development. In 1831, the British shifted their barracks from Srirangapatna to Bangalore and this is when the Bangalore Cantonment was set up.

However, the British rulers did not keep a watch on the construction of the roads and bridges around the civilian area and this is why the constructions around these areas are rather haphazard.

The sewerage system and the department of Survey and Settlement were also set up subsequently. Municipal bodies were soon constituted in Bangalore town and Bangalore Cantonment. However, its civic infrastructure did not witness much improvement.

A few years back the Bangalore International Airport was established. Zurich Airport, Larsen and Turbo consortium, Siemens, Airports Authority of India and Karnataka State Investment and Industrial Development Corporation are the chief stakeholders in the project.

Infrastructure Companies in Bangalore are changing the face of the city

A Greater Bengaluru Region having links with the nearby cities such as Tumkur, Ramnagara, Doddaballapura, Chikballapura, Kanakpura and Kolar is proposed.

As per the ruling party’s election manifesto south-east and north-south long elevated flyovers, five high tech stadiums, five auditoriums and four botanical gardens would soon be established in the city.

The rising infrastructure of Bangalore has helped a lot in getting a profitable margin for the developers. The same reason has also attracted a lot of international infrastructure players to rope in the market, through government tie-ups. This is surely a good sign of growth which will help the city a lot in coming years.
